Paul E. Hickem

	Paul E. Hickem, 81, of DuQuoin, passed away at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, April 9, 2000 at his home.
	Paul was a retired Supervisor of shipping at Phelps Dodge in DuQuoin.  He was a member of the Old DuQuoin Baptist Church, DuQuoin American Legion Roy Mitchell Post 647, Sons of American Legion and Egyptian Past Commanders Club.  He was a US Army veteran of WW II, having served in the 772nd Military Police Battalion.
	He was born April 1, 1919 at Grand Tower, the son of Harvey and Maude (Wright) Hickem.  He married F. Ruth Hartley on August 21, 1942 at Cape Girardeau, MO and she survives.
	He is survived by his wife of DuQuoin; one son, Fred P. Hickem of DuQuoin; one daughter, Elaine Silbe and husband Jim of Pinckneyville; two sisters, Margaret Barkus of DuQuoin and Marie Bryant of Longmont, CO; three grandchildren, Stacey Harsy and husband David, Brett Silbe and wife LaDonna and Jason Silbe and four great-grandchildren, Caleb, Melaina and Matilyn Harsy and Luke Silbe.
	He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters, Ruth, kenneth, Harry, Louise and Burnell and two in infancy.
	Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 12 at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin with Rev. Ted Clark officiating.
	Friends were able to call from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin.
	Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery at DuQuoin.
	Friends may make memorials to the Old DuQuoin Baptist Church building fund.
